French Football League To Consider Legal Action Against Twitter Due To Pirated Content

The French Football League (LFP) is contemplating suing Twitter for the videos on its application Vine showing "pirated images of football matches," according to L'EQUIPE. LFP lawyer Jérôme Perlemuter said, “If Twitter refuses to take into account the issue of rights holders, we will be forced to act through the courts.” The LFP has "already sent the social network three formal requests" from an American law firm that it commissioned. Perlemuter: “It is incomprehensible that a public and purportedly earnest company like Twitter treats the issue of copyright so lightly.” It is estimated that the LFP could claim up to €10M ($12.5M) in damages from Twitter, which has "already pointed out that there was a reporting form to remove the videos that go against their terms of use" (L’EQUIPE, 11/13).
