LFP Partners With Prisa, Mediapro, Association Of Media Agencies On Anti-Piracy Protocol

Spanish Football League (LFP) President Javier Tebas, Prisa Corporate Dir of Intellectual Property José Manuel Gómez Bravo, Mediapro President Jaume Roures and Association of Media Agencies President Gerardo Mariñas signed a "Defense of Audiovisual & Intellectual Property Rights" protocol on Tuesday, according to Juan Jiménez of AS. Tebas: "It is an important agreement for the LFP. One of the most important problems that football has is the subject of piracy. If we do not end piracy we will not even reach €800 million ($998M), and we are already not talking about the €1.1 billion ($1.37B) that we had proposed. Spanish football will go to ruin." Mariñas said the protocol aims to "prevent advertisers from spending money on illegal sites." He said, "The association of media agencies holds 95% of the advertising brands. A brand has to be legal and sustainable. Our agreement is not to invest in illegal sites or channels." Tebas said he believes the "minimum economic repercussion" from piracy is €150M ($187M) per year (AS, 11/11).
