Nine To Launch Broadcasting Revolution For Test Series Against India

Advanced camera technology used in the NFL "will enable Channel Nine to record every movement on every blade of grass" when the "latest broadcasting revolution" hits the airwaves in time for the first Test against India next month, according to Will Swanton of THE AUSTRALIAN. Channel Nine Dir of Sport Steve Crawley on Monday revealed the "looming implementation of the Cineflex system." Non-stop panoramic 360-degree footage "will be recorded of the entire ground." If there is drama away from the immediate live-to-air action, "the moment can be found on the constantly updating computer file, zoomed and replayed." Crawley said, “It’s like a full-page picture that you can magnify in on. With the Spidercam we have on top of all our other cameras at games, we’ve got every inch of the ground covered. Channel Nine’s 28 regular cameras, plus the elevated Spidercam, "will download their images into one computer file that gives boundary-to-boundary coverage." It might also assist Cricket Australia "in identifying troublemakers in the crowd when the shot zooms wide enough" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 11/11).
