Man City Leads Premier League With $1.7M Spent On Transfers Since '08

Football costs money -- "a lot of money," according to Neil Halligan of ARABIAN BUSINESS. Just ask Man City, the team bought by Abu Dhabi United Group in '08, which has spent $766.6M net on transfers "since that September takeover six years ago." Arabian Business revealed "exactly how much it has cost" Man City, and "all the other English football clubs that have maintained their positions in the Premier League" since '08, to buy each point in what "many fans see as the world’s most exciting sporting league." Propping up the table is Man City. Every point picked up since '08 has cost the current Premier League champions $1,738,270 in net transfer fees. The figure is "not far off double the investment paid by Chelsea, the next biggest spender, which has poured in $948,562 for each point gained." At the "top of our table is Everton." Unsurprisingly, the "spendthrift days of David Moyes saw the Merseyside club finish up with a negative spend" -- ManU made $44.7M from its transfer dealings, "meaning for every point they secured during their six-year period, they actually earned" just more than $124,492 (ARABIAN BUSINESS, 11/9).
