Football Notes: Morocco To 'Take Time' To Decide Whether To Stay On As '15 CAN Host

The Moroccan government is “taking time to reflect” before saying if the country will remain as host of the 2015 African Cup of Nations in January. On Monday, the Confederation of African Football refused the request for postponement sent last month from Morocco due to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, “leaving Moroccan leaders five days to decide whether they will continue organizing the event or throw in the towel.” The Pan-African body will meet again on Nov. 11 in Cairo (AFP, 11/5). ... Since the dismissal of Ligue 1 side Bastia former coach Claude Makelele, Ligue 1 side Rennes former coach Frederic Antonetti has been "reported as a possible replacement coach of Bastia." He has "not yet accepted the position, and indicated that he is giving himself 'time to think' after having discussions" with the leaders of the Corsican club. Antonetti said, “I need to take time to think…there are a lot of elements to take into account and I know SC Bastia too well. The situation is not clear and this is the club of my heart, but I will give a very quick response to the leaders.” Antonetti was previously appointed as coach of Bastia in ‘94 and held the position for six seasons. He has not coached for a club since ’13 (FRANCETV SPORTS, 11/6). ... Euro 2016 organizers announced Wednesday that Internet users will decide the name of the Euro 2016 mascot. A list of several names will be put to a vote by online users on the Euro 2016 page on UEFA’s website. Voting will begin on Nov. 18 at the 9pm local time France-Sweden kick-off and will end on Nov. 26. The winning name will be revealed on Nov. 30 (SPORT 24, 11/6).
