Ligue 1 side Bordeaux coach Willy Sagnol "is facing a barrage of criticism" after the former France and Bayern Munich defender said that African players are “powerful” but seemed to suggest they lacked intelligence and discipline (REUTERS, 11/5). 20 MINUTES reported after the comments from Sagnol, former Ligue 1 side Marseille President Pape Diouf is proposing radical action: having the African players boycott the next day of Ligue 1 play. In an open letter, Diouf challenged “that all the players from Africa pass the word around and decide not to take part in the next league match day. The impression would be wonderful and enlightening. ... Should these players continue to turn a deaf ear, cave in, or should they instead put an end to this routine which, at the end of their career, excludes them from all forms of responsibility and thus of attendance within these bodies?” (20 MINUTES, 11/5).
