English Premier League Side Liverpool Fans Protest Ticket Prices At Anfield

Liverpool fans "protested against ticket prices at Anfield during their 0-0 draw against Hull City," according to Kieran Gill of the London DAILY MAIL. Banners reading "£NOUGH IS £NOUGH" and "Kop Kids pay Adult Prices" were on show with supporters "angry at paying" up to £59 ($95) to see last year's Premier League runners up. BBC Sport Price of Football survey revealed that the cheapest match-day ticket at Anfield "is the second most priciest in the Premier League" and costs £37 ($60). Only Chelsea is "more expensive than the cheapest ticket at Liverpool." The protest "against modern football" was aimed at Owner John Henry as Twitter account @spiritofshankly wrote, "We won't stand back and let it carry on. We will fight back" (DAILY MAIL, 10/25). The BBC reported in a message on its website, fans' group Spirit of Shankly said, "Ticket prices continue to rise, outstripping inflation by over 1,000% in the last 20 years. It is why we, and others including the Spion Kop 1906 group, have continually campaigned on ticket prices, calling for them to be lowered and made more affordable to make Anfield more accessible for current and future generations." Liverpool has "been contacted about the protest but have yet to respond" (BBC, 10/25).
