Franchise Notes: 'Myth' Of Ferrari Lured Sebastian Vettel Away From Red Bull

A member of Red Bull Racing believes Sebastian Vettel "was swayed by the allure of driving for Ferrari, not the opportunity to drive a F1 Championship winning car." Motorsport consultant Helmut Marko believes "the time was right for Vettel to fulfil that dream, or as he called it, the 'myth.'" Marko: "Ferrari is still the name in F1. It’s a myth, so every driver yearns to go there in their racing career. Sure, much of it is about illusions" (FOX SPORTS, 10/15). ... Roo Motorsports, the new Australian NASCAR team based in Salisbury, N.C. "plans to enter the truck-racing series next year and perhaps the Nationwide series in the future." Roo announced Australian auto racing parts manufacturer Sax Suspension as its new sponsor (CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL, 10/15). ... Liverpool "has defended the club’s approach to player recovery" following disagreements between Manager Brendan Rodgers and England head coach Roy Hodgson. Liverpool first-team coach Mike Marsh said, "Our fitness programs have been well documented. We try to recover the players as best we can to prepare for the games" (AFP, 10/15).

ANGRY RESPONSE: Marussia "has angrily rejected media reports suggesting the team contributed to Jules Bianchi's life-threatening crash at the Japanese Grand Prix by telling him to ignore yellow caution flags." Reacting to what it called "isolated media reports" that the team "urged Bianchi to go faster during the caution period" in order to keep ahead of Caterham's Marcus Ericsson, Marussia said, "We are shocked and angered by these allegations. ... It is quite clear from the transmission and the transcript that at no point during the period leading up to Jules’s accident did the team urge Jules to drive faster or make any comments suggesting he should do so" (GUARDIAN, 10/15).
