Australian Institute Of Sport Excellence Program To Keep Medal Factory Going

The Australian Institute of Sport on Tuesday launched a "personal excellence" program designed to ensure Australia’s medal factory is producing athletes the nation "is proud of on and off the field," according to Nicole Jeffery of THE AUSTRALIAN. In the wake of the behavioral issues that beset the 2012 Olympic team, the AIS "is providing more support to high-performance athletes through a new website which will provide education and advice on the roles and responsibilities that are part of their sporting careers." AIS Dir Matt Favier said, "We want Australians to be proud of their sports people not only for their success but for the way they have gone about their success." The new program "will focus on helping athletes to make good decisions, not only about their sport but about their lives, and will also provide assistance when they make the transition to retirement, a point where some athletes have unravelled" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 10/15).
