Australian Football League side Carlton, "upset at losing Jarrad Waite for nothing, has taken aim at the AFL over its handling of free agency compensation and urged it to fix the flawed system," according to Matt Murnane of THE AGE. Blues CEO Steven Trigg said that "the club was expecting to receive a third-round selection for losing the key forward to North Melbourne last week as an unrestricted free agent." Trigg said the issue was deeper than the Waite decision and the AFL needing to review a "lack of transparency" in how it arrived at such decisions using a "mysterious formula." Trigg said, "We are disappointed with the outcome and annoyed with the process, the process part in particular." The league said in a media release last week that "based on the player's age and the contract offer, the AFL advised the Carlton Football Club there would be no compensation for the loss of player Waite." Trigg said that "the Blues had not yet been given any more specific information behind the decision not to award any compensation" (THE AGE, 10/5).
