Coliseum Sports Media Snatches Live Rights To PGA Tour In NZ, Will Take Coverage Online

New Zealand's Coliseum Sports Media has taken the "live broadcast rights for the PGA Tour away from Sky Television," according to Simon Plumb of STUFF. In what is "another serious blow to subscription giant Sky, the same start-up company which last year plucked the English Premier League has now taken the PGA Tour for at least the next five seasons." Coliseum is reportedly "also working to secure live rights for both the European Tour and LPGA Tour -- which would also see New Zealand golf star Lydia Ko moving away from Sky's screens -- in an attempt to build a new, comprehensive golf service." As with Coliseum's Premier League operation, PGA Tour coverage will now be an Internet-based service in New Zealand. However, "unlike the Premier League, Coliseum will not be involved in the actual delivery of the content." Coliseum will instead "simply act as a rights holder." The five-year agreement is a "world-first for the PGA Tour, with New Zealand the first overseas territory to gain access to the 'PGA Tour Live' system" (STUFF, 10/2).
