Barcelona Signs Three-Year Latin American Sponsorship Deal With Gillette

Barcelona has reached a three-year sponsorship agreement with Gillette that makes it the club's official shaver in Latin America until '17. The deal includes the launch of a limited edition of razors in Barcelona colors that is already on the market: Mach3, Prestobarba3, cartridges and pre-shave products. The deal also includes the organization of a football clinic with FCBEscola (Barcelona).

TELEFÓNICA DEAL TO END?: In Madrid, Marc Menchén reported Barcelona "put an end to its relationship with Telefónica," which has sponsored the club for more than 10 years. Barcelona is hoping "to have its telecommunications sponsor also become the owner of its TV rights, for which current rights holder Mediapro is already making a push." The club's intention is to "take some time for reflection" and to shift its strategy in the telecommunications area (EXPANSION, 9/30). In Barcelona, Miguel Rico reported "this does not mean that Telefónica cannot end up being the global partner that Barcelona is looking for in the telecommunications area." Mediapro, "hurried by Barcelona," is, like Telefónica, aspiring for the '15-16 contract (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 10/2).

CLUB EVALUATING QATAR AIRWAYS DEAL: MUNDO DEPORTIVO reported Barcelona is planning to "end its shirt sponsorship deal with Qatar Sports Investment" when the current contract expires in '16. This "was reported by Catalunya Ràdio" and it would mean the club would no longer carry the Qatar Airways advertising on the front of its shirts after that point. To "execute this possible decision, the club will first carry out a report in the upcoming months to evaluate the economic viability" and present the results at the end of the year (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 10/1).
