Almost A Quarter Of Austrian Bundesliga Players Earn Less Than $38,000 A Year

Almost a quarter of Austrian Bundesliga football players earn less than €30,000 ($38,000) annually before taxes, according to KURIER. The image of Austrian Bundesliga players "as overpaid professionals does not correspond with reality." That is the result of a survey conducted by the association of football players (VdF) among 241 Bundesliga and 198 second-tier players between January and May. According to the survey, 23.13% of Bundesliga players make less than €30,000 a year before taxes including bonuses, and 49.55% earn less than €75,000 ($95,000). However, at least 24% make more than €150,000 ($190,000). With those numbers, the Austrian Bundesliga is far behind even Germany's 2nd Bundesliga. In Austria's second tier only 2.15% of players break the €150,000 mark (KURIER, 10/2).
