Finance Notes: English Billionaire Koukash Rules Out Buying NRL Side Wests Tigers

English billionaire Marwan Koukash "has ruled out buying" National Rugby League side Wests Tigers "after whittling down his NRL club shopping list to 'one or two' remaining options." The owner of English Super League club Salford "is expected to fly out to Australia in October to finalise the deal," however he said that "he still hasn't made up his mind which club to buy into." But he "has ruled out buying the Wests Tigers." Koukash: "It's not something that would be of interest to me, no" (AAP, 9/25). ... EPL side Newcastle United Owner Mike Ashley's Sports Direct "has made a dramatic intervention in the turmoil surrounding Tesco, taking a bet that shares in Britain’s biggest retailer will rally." The sportswear chain controlled by Ashely said on Thursday that "it had agreed a deal with Goldman Sachs that will see it benefit from any rise in Tesco’s share price from its current decade lows" (FINANCIAL TIMES, 9/25).
