English Premier League Partners With Irdeto To Enhance Anti-Piracy Efforts

The Premier League announced a new partnership with media protection company Irdeto to protect its intellectual property. Irdeto will work with the Premier League in a number of areas, including a specific program to investigate the illegal supply of set-top boxes that allow commercial organizations -- including pubs and bars in the U.K. and overseas -- to receive illegal streams of Premier League matches. The intelligence that Irdeto provides to the Premier League will enhance its abilities to obtain the evidence required to take legal action against suppliers of systems that allow illegal broadcasting of its matches. It will also allow the league, working closely with law-enforcement organizations all over the world, to pursue actions against the highly organized criminal networks that are involved in the distribution of these illegal services (EPL).
