DOSB President Alfons Hörmann Says Berlin, Hamburg Suitable For Potential Olympics Bid

The German Olympic Sports Association (DOSB) "has evaluated the bid concepts of Berlin and Hamburg and views both cities as suitable Olympic candidates," according to the SID. DOSB President Alfons Hörmann said, "We have come to a simple and clear result, both cities fulfill without any restrictions the basic requirements." There still "is no set timetable for the DOSB to make a decision on whether and what city will represent Germany in a potential Olympic bid." Hörmann: "It could be as early as December 6." However, the date "is dependent on the current mood in the public" (SID, 9/11). In a separate piece, the SID reported Berlin Olympic bid opponents "have demonstrated against a potential bid for the '24 or '28 Games." A delegation of the organization "NOlympia" handed over three documents to Hörmann "consisting of criticism on the Berlin bid's concept." NOlympia activist Judith Demba said, "We believe other things are more important. We want investments in recreational and club sports, schools and child care centers. That has to come first, before thinking about putting billions into a four-week Olympic event" (SID, 9/11).
