Media Notes: German Channel Sport1 To Show Formula E Highlights On Free-TV

German sports channel Sport1 will show extensive highlights of the Formula E races during its inaugural season. Sport1 acquired non-exclusive platform-neutral distribution rights for Germany, Austria and Switzerland from sports rights agency MP & Silva. The highlights will air during Sport1's 30-mintue "Motorsport kompakt" program. The first episode will air on Sunday at 3:45pm. Technology company Schaeffler will be the presenting partner of the Formula E highlights on Sport1 (Sport1). ... The Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) and its media partner Deutsche Telekom are launching "Telekom Basketball." The new offer will for the first time show up to 350 games of the BBL live and in HD. Telekom customers will be able to watch the games free-of-charge through the company's Entertain package as well as online and mobile. For non-Telekom customers, Telekom Basketball will be available as either an annual subscription for €9.95 ($13) a month or a monthly sub for €14.95 ($19) (BBL).

E TICKET RIDE: Spain's Mediaset, the country's largest TV network, has acquired the exclusive broadcasting rights for the '14-15 Formula E season. The season opener on Saturday in Beijing will be broadcast live and in full, with Telecinco's Gonzalo Serrano working as commentator (Formula E). ... Over the coming weeks, DFL Sports Enterprises will award int'l audiovisual media rights for Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga on behalf of the League Association. Following a tender process, rights will be awarded for seasons '15-16 and '16-17 in various European territories and neighboring states. DFL Sports Enterprises intends to invite bids for the following 18 countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malta, Moldova, Russia, Spain (including Andorra), Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan (Bundesliga). ... The Hong Kong Jockey Club "unveiled a number of upgrades and innovations to its information and digital experiences for the new racing season which will include for the first time virtual aerial race replays." Among the changes in the digital world "will be a Jockey Club WeChat platform, new smartphone apps and a revamp of the club's Racing Club website" (SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST, 9/9).
