UEFA Evaluation Of Scotland's Euro 2020 Bid Calls Commercial Aspect 'Inadequate'

UEFA has "described the commercial aspect of Scotland's bid to host matches at Euro 2020 as 'inadequate,'" according to the BBC. The Scottish FA has bid for Hampden Park to "host three group games and one knock-out match." A UEFA report highlighted a lack of "clarity," but "praised Glasgow's transport links and hotel accommodation as 'impressive.'" The SFA said that it has re-iterated to UEFA that the commercial requirement would be fulfilled "in its entirety." UEFA's exec committee will vote on the host cities on Sept. 19 -- the day after the Scottish independence referendum (BBC, 9/10). In Glasgow, Gordon Parks reported the SFA on Wednesday "dismissed fears a yes vote at next week's independence referendum would damage Scotland's hopes of hosting games at Euro 2020." A source within the SFA brushed off UEFA's remarks as "legal jargon" and insisted the report is "not a concern for Hampden's submission to be successful" when a decision is made on Sept. 19. A total of 19 national associations "submitted dossiers to UEFA in April but the SFA are confident Hampden will be used to host three group games and one match in the knockout rounds of the tournament" (DAILY RECORD, 9/11).
