Event Notes: Challenge Tour Announces Season-Ending Final Swing

This year’s European Challenge Tour season will climax with a series of events known as the Final Swing, taking in four tournaments across China, Oman and Dubai, the closing three of which will receive more official world golf ranking points to reflect their increased significance on the golfing calendar. The Final Swing will get underway at the inaugural Shanghai Classic from Oct. 16-19, before the second leg of a Chinese fortnight is completed with the return of the Foshan Open the following week (European Tour). ... The record number of int'l racehorses committed to fly into Australia later this month "is expected to swell again after race meetings this weekend in Ireland, England and France." Twenty-three world class racehorses "have moved into quarantine in the past 24 hours" (THE AGE, 9/11). ...KLM Open play was suspended after Paraguay's Fabrizio Zanotti "was hit on the forehead by a golf ball at Kennemer Golf and Country Club." The delay occurred after this season's BMW International Open winner Zanotti "was injured by a ball struck from the 14th tee by Alexandre Kaleka when he was on the 16th fairway." The 31-year-old "did not lose consciousness and received treatment on the course from a doctor and a paramedic before he was then taken to hospital as a precaution" (IRISH INDEPENDENT, 9/11).

WIDOW'S FUND: Cyclists competing in the Vuelta a España "have decided to donate prize money corresponding to stage 16" -- which ran from San Martín del Rey Aurelio to La Farrapona -- to the widow of Guardia Civil member Eusebio García Flores, who died in an accident during that stage on Monday (EP, 9/11). ... The NBA 3X 3-on-3 series will visit Argentina from Sept. 20-21 and feature former NBA players Fabricio Oberto and Bruce Bowen. The event will take place at the Tecnópolis exhibition in Buenos Aires. Fans will also be able to participate in activities including dunking and three-point competitions and performances by the San Antonio Spurs' Silver Dancers and Orlando Magic mascot Stuff the Magic Dragon (CLARIN, 9/10).
