A-League Western Sydney Wanderers May Need Venue Bigger Than Parramatta Stadium

A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers "are likely to be kicked out of their home of Parramatta Stadium and moved to a bigger venue if they progress to the Asian Champions League final," according to Angela Habashy of the AAP. The Wanderers face FC Seoul away in their semi-final first leg next Wednesday "before hosting the Korean club at Parramatta Stadium two weeks later." Should Western Sydney advance, ANZ Stadium "looks set to be the venue for the first leg of the final" on Oct. 25. Though the Asian Football Confederation approved Parramatta Stadium for the group stage, quarterfinals and semis, the 22,000-seat venue will "likely be deemed unsuitable to accommodate the large crowd a Saturday night final would draw." The AFC will also "take into account things including facilities for the large number of media who would attend, the various broadcast commitments they need to accommodate as well as the host of dignitaries and VIPs who will need to be catered for" (AAP, 9/10).
