EPL Side Queens Park Rangers At Risk Of Being Excluded If It Fails To Pay FFP Fine

Football League CEO Shaun Harvey warned on Tuesday that EPL side Queens Park Rangers could be "thrown out of professional football if they refuse to pay their multi-million pound Financial Fair Play fine," according to Ben Rumsby of the London TELEGRAPH. Harvey revealed that the league "could deny Rangers permission to play in its competitions in the event the club carried out their threat to contest their punishment" -- expected to be up to £50M ($80.5M) --  for breaching its FFP regulations. Even if QPR "avoided that doomsday scenario, the league could also kick them out of the League Cup from next season." The club "racked up record losses" of £65.4M during '12-13 and last season's figures are "also expected to make grim reading following their relegation and loss of Premier League television income" (TELEGRAPH, 9/9). In London, Owen Gibson reported QPR Chair Tony Fernandes has "vowed to fight any fine imposed by the Football League, which would have to go to charity rather than the other clubs under an agreement with the Premier League over its solidarity payments." Harvey said that he was "satisfied" that it would be "able to charge QPR for a breach of the rules while they were still part of the competition and that the ultimate sanction would be to refuse re-admission." Harvey: "Theoretically, that is the position but I would hope there would be resolution long before that option even had to be considered." Fernandes said after his club won promotion, "Will we fight the fine? What do you think? After all we've been through, it's my middle name -- 'Fight It' Fernandes" (GUARDIAN, 9/9).
