Rapid Vienna, City Agree On Construction Contract For Club's Proposed New Stadium

Austrian top flight football club Rapid Vienna and the city "have agreed to a planning and building contract for the club's proposed new stadium," according to KURIER. The club "confirmed the agreement on Monday." In addition, "city aid for the construction of the new arena has been put forward." The contract "is the requirement that Rapid will be able to take over ownership of the new 'Allianz Stadion' once it is finished." However, the ownership of the property "will remain with the city." The city council committee for education, youth, sport & information "also unanimously agreed to release" €20M ($25.8M) in subsidy toward the €53M ($68.4M) project. Both decisions "have to be formally agreed on by the city council." The council's next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 25 (KURIER, 9/8).
