Olympic Notes: Hydrogen Might Power 2020 Olympic Games In Tokyo

The organizing committee for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games "intends to include the utilization of hydrogen energy in a basic plan for the Games." To take advantage of the 2020 Games as a trigger for the realization of a “hydrogen energy-oriented society,” the committee "aims not only to spread the use of hydrogen as a next-generation clean energy source, but also to promote Japan’s environmental technology to the rest of the world" (YOMIURI SHIMBUN, 9/8). ... Brazil’s largest provider of mobility products and solutions, Ottobock, will provide technical service for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games (Paralympic). ... The Gambia National Olympic Committee headquarters "is still closed despite being declared opened by the National Sports Council following its initial closure four months ago." The Olympic House was re-opened last month after it was rendered inaccessible to staff and execs alike by Police Intervention Unit officers who acting on orders, "forced the complex to cease operations" (ALL AFRICA, 9/6).
