Victorian WorkCover Authority To Probe AFL On Supplements Scandal After Complaint

The Victorian WorkCover Authority "has been asked to investigate" the Australian Football League for failing to protect players from sports scientists, according to Michael Warner of the Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH. A request that members of the AFL Commission and execs, including CEO Gillon McLachlan and his predecessor Andrew Demetriou, be prosecuted "was lodged with the workplace authority on Monday." The identity of the person who lodged the complaint "has not been revealed." The complaint asserts that "league chiefs failed to properly respond to warnings that players were being exposed to health and safety risks." The conduct of the competition "created intrinsic risks that players would be exposed to harm, including by way of exposure to sports science and medicine practices" (DAILY TELEGRAPH, 9/8).
