Sky Deutschland Draws High Ratings With Bundesliga Games Over The Weekend

German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland "recorded more than satisfying ratings for its Bundesliga broadcasts on Saturday afternoon," according to Alexander Krei of DWDL. The simulcast of the league's five afternoon games, which started at 3:30pm, obtained a market share of close to 15%, while the late game between Bayern Munich and Schalke had a share of close to 10% starting at 6:30pm. Sunday's games "were unable to duplicate those numbers." The game between Mainz and Hannover attracted 590,000 viewers and recorded a 4.6% share in the target demographic 14-49. The day's second game between Freiburg and Mönchengladbach obtained a 4.3% share in the target demo as 740,000 viewers tuned in. In addition, German public broadcaster ARD attracted 590,000 viewers to its broadcast of the German beach volleyball championship on Sunday. The coverage, which started at 1:19pm, had a market share of 4.2% including 1.9% in the target demo. Over the course of the afternoon, ARD attracted 1.14 million viewers to its broadcast of the World Rowing Chamionships; 1.71 million viewers tuned in to watch its track and field coverage, recording a 10.9% share; and the World Equestrian Games were watched by 1.88 million viewers and had a market share of 11.9% (DWDL, 9/1).
