DFL CEO Christian Seifert Calls For German Bid To Host Euro, Olympics In '24

German Football League (DFL) CEO Christian Seifert "has called on German sports to bid on the UEFA European Championship and the Olympic Summer Games in '24," according to the SID. Seifert: "German sports has to do everything it can to get both events. 2024 could become THE sports year. It's [an opportunity that] probably won't come again for the next several decades." Seifert also pointed out the importance of Euro 2024 for German football. He said, "[In] 2024, the stadium infrastructure, which hosted World Cup games in 2006, will be close to 20 years old. It would be a great occasion to make one or several investments." In addition, Seifert criticized the model of FIFA and UEFA "to award their tournaments to regions where millions of tax revenue is poured into stadiums while completely ignoring sustainability." Seifert: "Germany would be a great solution for everyone involved" (SID, 8/16).
