The Rugby Football League announced the appointment of CHRIS RAWLINGS as commercial director. Rawlings, 45, joins the governing body with experience in the sports and entertainment industries, having previously worked with some of the world’s biggest brands. He will have responsibility for increasing commercial revenue across Rugby League, working with current sponsors and establishing new partnerships and associations with the sport’s competitions and properties. Rawlings will be based at the sport’s offices at MediaCityUK in Salford and commences his new role on Monday (RFL). ... IMG Sports & Entertainment President GEORGE PYNE is leaving the company to start his own sports and entertainment business (THE DAILY, 8/13). ... Kuala Lumpur Hockey Association "were dealt a major blow" with the resignation of KLHA President GEORGE KOSHY. The surprise decision by Koshy, who had served for six years, "comes in the wake" of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation council’s move to replace him as team manager of the Incheon Asian Games in September (THE STAR, 8/13). ... Scottish League Two side Albion Rovers announced that JOHN DEVLIN has "stepped down as the club's chairman." The boardroom changes will see businessman PAT GILLOOLY "take over." Devlin said, "Away from football, my own situation is changing and I have a number of other personal and business priorities that increasingly require my attention." Gillooly received the backing of the board "and will take over as chairman with immediate effect" (BBC, 8/13). ... Spanish second division side Mallorca named VALERY KARPIN its new coach. Karpin replaces MIQUEL SOLER. Mallorca General Manager DUDÚ AOUATE confirmed Karpin's appointment and said, "Karpin is the right coach for the athletic project we have designed" (NOTICIAS DE GIPUZKOA, 8/13).
