Spanish Football League Committee Says Racing Santander Meets Requirements

The Spanish Football League's (LFP) economic control committee has "determined that Racing Santander meets the necessary requirements to play in the second division, and the team's inclusion only has to be confirmed by the LFP's delegate committee," according to the EFE. Racing said in a statement that the LFP's economic committee concluded that the club "meets all the necessary parameters." The LFP has scheduled a press conference for Thursday in which LFP President Javier Tebas will "address the subjects addressed by the delegate committee and will announce" whether Racing and Real Murcia can compete in the second division (EFE, 8/6).

AFE BACKS MURCIA: The EFE reported Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) has "defended Murcia and its players." AFE President Luis Rubiales said that excluding Murcia from the second division is "unfair." Rubiales "lamented that the working lives of many professionals are in play." He added that he "agrees there should be economic controls for clubs, but it should not be established unilaterally by the LFP" (EFE, 8/5).
