More Than 8 Million Viewers Watch Usain Bolt Win Gold For Jamaica In 4x100m Relay

Usain Bolt’s "triumphant final leg" for the Jamaican 100m relay team handed BBC1 "its biggest audience of the Commonwealth Games" with more than 8 million viewers, according to John Plunkett of the London GUARDIAN. The men’s 4x100m relay final "drew 8.4 million viewers" between 9:20-9:25pm on Saturday. Tom Daley "delivered the biggest audience for sister channel BBC3," with a peak of 1.8 million viewers watching the Olympic Bronze Medalist take Gold in the men’s 10m platform diving a little earlier on Saturday. Sunday night’s closing ceremony pulled in 6.8 million viewers, a 34.2% share between 9-11pm, "after an hour-long review" of the games which drew 5.1 million viewers (25.0%) between 8-9pm. Saturday night’s main games program averaged 5.4 million viewers (28.6%) from 7-10:20pm (GUARDIAN, 8/4).

OPENING WEEKEND: DWDL's Alexander Krei reported German pay-TV channel Sky "attracted an average of 440,000 viewers for its broadcast of Saturday's 2nd Bundesliga games." Starting at 4pm, Sky obtained a market share of 3.4%. In the target demographic 14-49,  the 2nd Bundesliga games had a market share of 3.1%. Saturday's early kickoff game between Heidenheim and Frankfurt was watched by 180,000 viewers and obtained a share of 1% in the target demo.

SUPERCUP AND DTM: German public broadcaster ARD recorded a market share of 4.1% for its broadcast of the basketball Supercup game between Germany and Russia on Sunday. The game, which Germany won 84-75, attracted 500,000 viewers. In the target demographic, Germany's win was watched by 200,000 viewers and had a 3.9% share. Ahead of the Supercup game, ARD showed the seventh race of the DTM season from Spielberg, Austria. The race, which was won by BMW driver Marco Wittmann, had a 7.3% share in the target demographic. Overall, the DTM race at the Red Bull Ring was watched by 1.09 million viewers and recorded an average market share of 9.3% (DWDL, 8/4).
