Event Notes: Dubai To Stage Pakistan Independence Day Cricket Tournament

Dubai "will stage a Pakistan Independence Day cricket tournament" for the 26th year on Aug. 14 at the Seven Seas ground. The tournament, "which will be held under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council, will be contested by six B division teams" (GULF NEWS, 8/2). ... Tennis ACT CEO Ross Triffitt said Canberra will be in the "box seat" to host Davis Cup ties when its A$27M ($35M) facility is finished next year, with officials already starting to lobby Tennis Australia for the rights to host the country's best players. Tennis ACT "unveiled its plans on Monday for the next three years," including an ATP A$50,000 challenger tournament for men and a A$50,000 ITF event for women in November next year (CANBERRA TIMES, 8/4).
