Spanish Football League To Drop Real Murcia, Delay Decision On Racing Santander

Spanish club Real Murcia "will not compete in the second division during the upcoming season," according to Muñoz & Villar of EL PAIS. The Spanish Football League (LFP) decided not to "include the team" for failure to meet financial requirements related to the club's debt. The measure relegates Real Murcia to the Spanish third tier. Its place in the second division will be filled by Mirandés. Racing Santander, "the other club in danger because of its economic situation" and debts with the Spanish tax authorities, has received a period of five days to "contribute additional information" before the LFP rules on whether the team will be included. The LFP will "announce a definitive decision to both clubs on Aug. 7" (EL PAIS, 8/1).
