Former Bayern Munich Sports Dir CHRISTIAN NERLINGER "will become the managing director of Munich-based sports management agency SAM Sports." The agency, which is a subsidiary of German media group ProSiebenSat.1, "confirmed Nerlinger's hire on Friday." SAM Sports "will focus on advising professional football players on their career management" (FOCUS ONLINE, 7/25). ... Liga MX side Chivas Guadalajara named ALBERT BENAIGES its director of youth football. Benaiges previously worked as the coordinator of Barcelona's youth academy, La Masia. Players he coached at La Masia included LIONEL MESSI, GERARD PIQUÉ and XAVI HERNÁNDEZ. Chivas Guadalajara's statutes "demand that only Mexicans can play for the club" (MARCA, 7/26). ... Former Indian cricket player SOURAV GANGULY has been elected "to the joint secretary's post at the Cricket Association of Bengal." Ganguly "follows in the footsteps of his illustrious predecessors" like POLLY UMRIGAR, BISHAN SINGH BEDI, DILIP VENGSARKAR, JAVAGAL SRINATH, BRIJESH PATEL, SHIVLAL YADAV and ANIL KUMBLE, "who achieved varying degrees of success as cricket administrators." JAGMOHAN DALMIYA was also unanimously re-elected as CAB president (IANS, 7/27). ... The Greek football federation said that former Chelsea Manager CLAUDIO RANIERI "has been appointed coach of Greece." The 62-year-old Italian takes over from FERNANDO SANTOS "whose contract expired following the World Cup where he guided Greece to the last 16." Ranieri "has been handed a two-year deal and his main focus will now be steering Greece to Euro 2016" (PA, 7/25). ... Zimbabwe Cricket Chair PETER CHINGOKA "has stepped down from his post after two decades at the helm." He "was the first black person to assume the role," having taken over from DAVE ELLMAN-BROWN in '92, "just before Zimbabwe attained Test status" (AP, 7/26). ... EPHRAIM MASHABA "was re-appointed as coach of South Africa's national team on Saturday, the fourth time he has taken the helm of Bafana Bafana." Mashaba, more commonly known as "Shakes," has had two previous interim spells with the senior team and was the "permanent coach" between Aug. '02 and Nov. '03 (BBC, 7/26). ... The Nigeria FA board on Saturday in Abuja "passed a vote of no confidence" on its Chair AMINU MAIGARI and "approved his immediate dismissal from the board." The board action "was on grounds of financial misappropriation, misapplication and maladministration." First vice-Chair MIKE UMEH was mandated "to act as chairman pending new elections" (NIGERIAN OBSERVER, 7/27). ... V8 Ute Racing Series competitor ANDREW FISHER "has been appointed to the category’s board." Fisher’s appointment "follows the resignation of long-term" Dir BEN DUNN. Fisher "will represent the Ford shareholders at management level" alongside incumbent GARY MACDONALD, while ANDREW EGLINTON was re-elected to represent Holden alongside KIM JANE (SPEED CAFE, 7/25).
