Event Notes: Austria Replaces China As Host Of Red Bull Air Race Final

Austria, not China, "will host the final of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship on Oct. 25-26." The event "will take place at the F1 racetrack in Spielberg, Austria." The Red Bull Ring "will replace the proposed race in China, which fell through" (SID, 7/15). ... Argentine first division side River Plate's friendly in Bogotá against Colombian side Millonarios on Wednesday will only be available to viewers in Argentina via ww.netlivetv.com. Match organizer World Eleven confirmed that the match will start at 8pm local time and will feature a tribute to Alfredo Di Stéfano, who died last week after a career during which he played for both clubs (CLARIN, 7/15). ... Int'l Swimming Federation (FINA) Exec Dir Cornel Marculescu said that mixed diving "may become a new event at the 2015 Swimming World Championships in Kazan." Marculescu said, "We have brought high diving to the World Championships in Barcelona last year, and we have been thinking about bringing the mixed diving. We will discuss the idea at the FINA World Aquatics Convention in Doha in November" (XINHUA, 7/15). ... The Chelmsford City racecourse has "been allocated 12 fixtures" for '15. The Essex venue "initially opened as Great Leighs" in '08, but "went into administration" after less than a year. It is "set to be reopened next year under new ownership and officials can then apply to the British Hoseracing Authority (BHA) for more fixtures" (BBC, 7/15). ... Boise, Idaho, which is home to 15,000 descendants of Spain's Basque region, has teamed up with the city's Convention & Tourism Bureau to raise $100,000 to bring La Liga side Athletic Bilbao to the U.S. for a friendly involving Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers or Real Salt Lake. The Basque-American community has "been gathering donations" since November (INSIDE SPANISH FOOTBALL, 7/15). ... MMA promotion ONE Fighting Championship announced four bouts for its inaugural card in Dubai, the ONE FC: Reign of Champions (PHNOM PENH POST, 7/15). ... Australia's three post-World Cup int'l friendlies later this year will begin with a trip to Belgium on Sept. 4. The team will face the UAE on Oct. 10 in the UAE and will play Qatar in Qatar four days later (AAP, 7/15). ... Officials in Seoul said on Monday that "the two Koreas will hold talks this week to discuss logistics arising from the North's decision to send a delegation of athletes and cheerleaders to the upcoming Asian Games." The Asiad "is to be held" Sept. 19-Oct. 4 in Incheon (AFP, 7/14). ... A demonstration is being planned to urge the U.K. Government and Glasgow 2014 organizers to "speak out against homophobia and transphobia in the Commonwealth." Campaigners from the Peter Tatchell Foundation "plan to march on 10 Downing Street" to urge PM David Cameron to "declare his support for non-discrimination" (HERALD SCOTLAND, 7/15).
