Canadian Premier League T20 Secures Financing For Cricket Stadium In Toronto

The Canadian Premier League T20 has secured financing for the construction of a 35,000-seat covered stadium for int'l cricket. Designed by WSP Canada/Architecture 49, the stadium will be the first purposed-built covered cricket facility in the world with a natural grass surface and a fixed roof that will allow for maximum sun exposure. League execs are currently examining several potential locations in Toronto and the surrounding suburban Greater Toronto Area. Canadian Premier League T20 President Bob Mitchell said that finding a large enough property to build such a stadium has been a more difficult challenge than initially anticipated. Mitchell: "Our plan is to have this stadium built and ready for international cricket within four to five years." While the search continues, the league plans to launch its inaugural season next August and September with 10 teams playing a 45-game schedule along with three playoff games (Canadian Premier League T20).
