London Mayor Says City Will Host Series Finale Of Inaugural Formula E Season

London Mayor Boris Johnson announced on Monday that Battersea Park will host the Formula E inaugural season's series finale on June 27, 2015, according to Kevin Eason of the LONDON TIMES. Talks to hold a F1 grand prix in London "have come and gone for years, but Formula E clinched the deal for the city to stage the finale next June of a ten-race series" that includes other locations such as Beijing and L.A. Formula E has "none of the disadvantages of F1 -- starting with the money." Unlike F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, who charges nations and circuits up to £40M ($68.6M) to stage a grand prix, Formula E is "renting Battersea Park from the London authorities." There will also be "free tickets for children as the series attempts to establish new boundaries for a motor race that will bring technology of the future on to the streets." This "will not be a Formula E grand prix but an E-prix." Johnson: "Fast, fun, and no doubt furious, the FIA Formula E Championship race in London is set to provide an awesome addition to the capital’s sporting calendar" (LONDON TIMES, 7/1).
