Fans To Bid For League One Side Coventry City, Return Club To Ricoh Arena

A group of fans and local businessmen "have joined together to make an ambitious bid" to buy League One side Coventry City and bring it back to the Ricoh Arena, according to Steve Carpenter of the COVENTRY OBSERVER. The Keep Cov in Cov campaign group "has written a formal letter" to SISU Capital CEO Joy Seppala, who currently owns the club. Campaign coordinator Michael Orton "has outlined plans to purchase the club, including the Football League golden share," for £51,987.35 ($88,400), which is subject to the club being sold "debt free." The second component of the letter "explains how the group will also pay rent and any match-day costs at the Ricoh for up to three seasons and are confident of agreeing terms with stadium owners Arena Coventry Limited." It adds that SISU "will be expected to pay costs should attendances rise above 5,000, which would be more than double the current crowds attending matches at Sixfields Stadium in Northampton." Orton: "We are able to move quickly and can provide proof of funds for either/both components of our offer at the appropriate time" (COVENTRY OBSERVER, 6/20).
