More Than 26 Million Watch Germany-Portugal World Cup Game On ARD

German public broadcaster ARD "attracted more than 26 million viewers to its broadcast of the World Cup match between Germany and Portugal on Monday," according to Manuel Nunez Sanchez of QUOTENMETER. An average of 26.36 million viewers tuned in to watch the game starting at 6pm. The number translated into an "outstanding" market share of 81.8%. In the target demographic 14-49, Germany's 4-0 victory obtained a market share of 86.4% as 11 million viewers tuned in. The pre-game coverage, which started at 4:10pm, was watched by 8.14 million viewers and had a 47.2% share. In the target demographic, the show attracted 3.3 million viewers and had a 51.8% share. The game between Iran and Nigeria, which started at 9pm, was watched by 9.48 million viewers and had a 33.6% market share. In the target demographic, the 0-0 draw had a 39.4% share as 4.4 million tuned in. The day's last game between the U.S. and Ghana recorded a 47.5% share as 3.61 million viewers tuned in starting at midnight (QUOTENMETER, 6/17).

GAELIC SPORTS: The IRISH INDEPENDENT reported Sky Sports' Gaelic Athletic Association viewership "has more than halved in seven days." An average of 14,700 viewers tuned in to see Dublin overcome Wexford in Saturday's Leinster hurling semifinal at Wexford Park, "a drastic drop from the 32,000 average they had for the Kilkenny's facile victory over Offaly." The figure does not include people who watched the game in pubs, or those who tuned in from the U.K. (IRISH INDEPENDENT, 6/16).
