More Than 12 Million Watch France-Honduras World Cup Match On ZDF

German public broadcaster ZDF "recorded top ratings for its World Cup broadcasts on Sunday," according to Manuel Weis of QUOTENMETER. The game between France and Honduras attracted an average of 12.04 million viewers. The number translated into a market share of 38.7%. In the target demographic 14-49, France's 3-0 win attracted a 43.5% share. Post-game analysis, which aired starting at 11:30pm, was watched by 4.8 million. An average of 3.56 million viewers tuned in to watch the game between Argentina and Bosnia and Herzegovina starting at midnight. Argentina's 2-1 victory obtained a 45% share. The game between Switzerland and Ecuador had an average viewership of 9.29 million viewers. Switzerland's 2-1 win had market shares of 42.4% and 43.2%, respectively (QUOTENMETER, 6/16).

AUSTRALIA: In Sydney, Michael Bodey reported World Cup finals "delivered again for SBS ONE on Sunday with big early morning audiences." Italy’s victory against England "averaged 836,000 capital-city viewers, and 1.028 million nationally, after 1.741 million metropolitan viewers watched Australia’s loss to Chile on Saturday morning." Cote d’Ivoire’s come-from-behind victory over Japan, "which aired from 10am on Sunday morning averaged 478,000 metro viewers and 115,000 regionally, and in the early morning hours 150,000 capital-city viewers watched the Costa Rica v Uruguay match while 146,000 saw Columbia defeat Greece" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 6/16).

JAPAN: KYODO reported ratings agcency Video Research Ltd. said that the World Cup match between Japan and Ivory Coast "averaged more than 40 percent in Tokyo and its vicinity." The average rating stood at 42.6% for the first half of the match broadcast by NHK on Sunday, and 46.6% for the second half in the Kanto region centered in Tokyo. In the Kansai region centered in Osaka and its vicinity, the average came to 39.5% in the first half and 45% in the second half. The rating during the match peaked at 50.8% in Kanto and 49.8% in Kansai just before the final whistle that marked Japan's 1-2 loss (KYODO, 6/16).

LE MANS: DWDL's Alexander Krei reported pan-European broadcaster Eurosport attracted an average of 240,000 viewers for its broadcast of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race starting at 9am on Sunday. The number equaled a market share of 2.4%. In the target demographic, the race also obtained a 2.4% share. The race's peak audience of more than 530,000 viewers occurred, as expected, at the end of the race. The market share was 4.6% at that point. The peak market share of 5.4% obtained by Eurosport came in the early morning hours on Sunday. In the target demographic, the race obtained a peak market share of 16.3%.

OTHER SPORTS: The loss of the German national handball team against Poland on Saturday attracted 1.27 million viewers. The number equaled a market share of 11.7%. As a result of the loss, Germany failed to qualify for the 2015 world championships in Qatar. In the target demographic, Poland's 28-27 win obtained an 8.4% share. The tennis match between Alejandro Falla and Roger Federer on Sunday was watched by 740,000 viewers and had a 6.2% share. Federer won his seventh Gerry Weber Open title after a two-set win over Falla (DWDL, 6/16).
