Event Notes: Organizers Say Ticket Demand For Abu Dhabi F1 GP 'Unprecedented'

Organizers said that ticket demand for the 2014 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix "has been unprecedented." The number of tickets already sold, combined with the number that "have so far been reserved by companies, tour operators and agents," means that 75% of all tickets "are spoken for." Yas Marina Circuit CEO Al Tareq Al Ameri said that the main grandstand and west grandstand "are already almost at capacity, and seats in the Marina Grandstand are also filling rapidly" (GULF NEWS, 6/8). ... The Int'l Cricket Council announced that Uganda will host the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 3 from Oct. 26-Nov. 2. Six teams will compete in the event, with the top two earning promotion to Pepsi ICC WCL Division 2, which will be held in early '15 (ICC). ... Canberra "rugby league royalty" will be on hand for next home game of National Rugby League side Canberra Raiders against Canterbury, but ticket prices "have been slashed to commemorate the club's last premiership in 1994." The Raiders said that "cutting general admission adult prices" to A$15 ($14) for the Canberra Stadium clash on June 20, "has long been in the club's plans and is not a reaction to its poor form or disappointing average home crowd" of 9,249 this year (CANBERRA TIMES, 6/10).
