Serbian SuperLiga Side Red Star Belgrade Suffers UEFA Champions League Ban

Serbian SuperLiga side Red Star Belgrade "has been banned from next season's Champions League" for failing to pay its debts, according to the BBC. UEFA said in a statement the Serbian champions were "in breach of a number of provisions of the Uefa Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play regulations." The 1991 European Cup winners "have 10 days to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport." Clubs must show that "they have paid player salaries, transfer fees, and social taxes" before being granted a license to enter UEFA competitions. League runner-up Partizan, Red Star's city rival, stands "to get the Champions League berth." Serbia's FA also faces UEFA sanctions "for granting Red Star its license" (BBC, 6/6).
