Mediaset Spain Announces Cuatro, Telecinco Channels Will Air 25 Games During World Cup

Broadcaster Mediaset CEO Paolo Vasile announced that his company will air the 25 best World Cup matches this summer in Spain, one per day -- for a total of 100 TV hours, according to Patricia Cazón of AS. Mediaset channel Cuatro will begin coverage with Spain's friendly against Bolivia on Friday and will also air La Roja's match against El Salvador on June 7. Starting on June 9, both Telecinco and Cuatro will broadcast from a set in Curitiba. Telecinco will air the World Cup opener between Brazil and Croatia on June 12 and the following day, it will air Spain's match against the Netherlands at 9pm local time. Mediaset is also launching an app to watch games live. Vasile: "The players have a big responsibility, but so do we, to accompany the players for this magic moment. Because right now, if you type 'football' into Google, you get one word: Spain" (AS, 5/27).
