Mercedes Confirms Accident During Commercial Shoot Involving German Team

Mercedes confirmed reports of "a serious car accident during a commercial shoot involving the German national football team on Tuesday," according to the DPA. The car company said that a car driven by German Touring Car Championship (DTM) driver Pascal Wehrlein "hit two people on a closed-off road." One of the men "reportedly suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted from the scene." The injured "have no affiliation to the German team or Mercedes-Benz." The car company said in a statement, "We regret this accident and hope both injured will get well soon. Of course, we will support the authorities in their investigation into the accident." Wehrlein's car, as well as the car directly ahead of him driven by F1 driver Nico Rosberg, "each had a national team player on board." Their names "have not been released." Wehrlein "was not hurt in the accident" (DPA, 5/27).
