The Supreme Court on Thursday "declined to reinstate" ousted Board of Control for Cricket in India President N. Srinivasan and "pulled him up" for seeking a modification of the previous order passed in the Indian Premier League corruption case, according to Utkarsh Anand of the INDIAN EXPRESS. A vacation bench of Justices B. S. Chauhan and A. K. Sikri "questioned why Srinivasan was asking for a modification now and did not argue against it when the order stripping him of the powers was being passed." The bench "pointed out that the judges who had passed the restraint order were still there" and if the BCCI and Srinivasan wanted a modification, "they must approach them and request for a hearing" (INDIAN EXPRESS, 5/22). The PTI reported Srinivasan "has been excluded from the BCCI after being tainted by allegations of match-fixing and betting against his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan." He had "sought modification of the apex court's March 28 and May 16 interim orders by which he was restrained from functioning as the BCCI President." The bench said, "You were respondent in the case. You were very much present in the hearing. They were not an ex-parte orders and they were passed in your presence" (PTI, 5/22). In Mumbai, Vijay Tagore reported after taking the IPL final away from the Wankhede, the BCCI "is trying to mollify an agitated" Mumbai Cricket Association. The BCCI has "offered the manager's post of the forthcoming England tour" to MCA VP Ravi Savant. Savant is also a BCCI VP. BCCI sources "confirmed that discussions have taken place about the likelihood of appointing Savant as the manager for the England tour." The news of a likely managerial role for Savant "has come as a surprise to many MCA officials who were expecting their senior vice-president to lead their fight against the BCCI after the IPL final was moved from Mumbai to Bangalore." A MCA managing committee member said, "We will be really disappointed if Savant takes up the offer" (MUMBAI MIRROR, 5/22). IANS reported the BCCI "is considering ways of helping out under-19 players" in the IPL, so that they "are able to handle the fame and money the tourney brings them and do not go wayward." Board interim CEO Sunil Gavaskar said that the idea "had come up from his discussions with four legends of the game" -- Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, V.V.S. Laxman and Anil Kumble. Gavaskar: "We had lot of discussions on what should be done. One of the issues was about guiding the lot of youngsters -- 16, 17 or 18 years of age'' (IANS, 5/22).
