Martina Hingis Approached By Hong Kong Tennis Open Organizers To Add 'Star Power'

Martina Hingis "is being chased" by Hong Kong Tennis Open organizers, hoping the former world No. 1 "will provide star power for the city's return to the big time in September," according to Alvin Sallay of the SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST. Hingis has been approached to play at the $250,000 WTA Championship at Victoria Park from Sept. 8-14. Hong Kong Tennis Open Managing Dir Kenneth Low said, "Martina will be a huge draw and it would be great for Hong Kong to have her as a tournament ambassador and also if she can play, whether it is only doubles, to inspire the local juniors." Hingis "has played in Hong Kong in the past." She also coaches German world No. 17 Sabine Lisicki (SCMP, 5/22).
