BBC To Show 1,300 Hours Of Live Coverage From 2014 Commonwealth Games In Glasgow

The BBC "are to stream" 1,300 hours of live action from the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, according to Gary Ralston of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Clare Balding, Gabby Logan, Hazel Irvine and Gary Lineker "will lead the marathon coverage." They "will help present" more than 300 hours of coverage on BBC1 and BBC3, with up to 200 hours on radio and 1,300 hours of live action on 17 digital streams. Olympic cyclist Chris Hoy and Gold Medallists Rebecca Adlington and Michael Johnson "will also join the Beeb’s line-up" (DAILY RECORD, 5/21). The SCOTSMAN reported BBC presenter John Inverdale said that the corporation "will treat every event on its 'merits' when deciding coverage." There are "expected tensions over how the rival home nations will be represented." Inverdale said that although some people were "always searching to find a 'lack of impartiality' of presenters who were 'venomously pro-something or anti-something else,' there will be no bias in favour of any team" at Glagsgow 2014. Although the BBC is planning extensive TV, radio and online coverage, there "will be no dedicated digital stream for the host nation" (SCOTSMAN, 5/21).
