In a setback to "beleaguered" former Board of Control for Cricket in India President N. Srinivasan, the Indian Supreme Court on Saturday "directed a probe against him and 12 prominent players" in the Indian Premier League betting and spot-fixing scandal. The apex court turned down the BCCI's proposal to get the probe done by its panel "and gave the task of investigation to Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee which had earlier also conducted the probe in the scandal and had submitted in a sealed envelop its report in which names of Srinivasan and 12 cricketers were mentioned" (PTI, 5/17).
BACK TO BANGALORE: The PTI also reported the IPL Governing Council decided that "the June 1 final of the T20 tournament would be held in Bangalore as announced earlier." BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said, "The GC had a conference call last night and after a lot of deliberation among the members it was unanimously decided to stick to our earlier decision, that is to play the final in Bangalore. One of the main reasons is we don’t have time till Monday or Tuesday as a lot of preparations are needed to hold it" (PTI, 5/18).
