Austrian Football Bundesliga Suffers 9.6% Decline In Attendance During '13-14 Season

Austria's football Bundesliga "has suffered a 9.6% decline in attendance during the '13-14 season in comparison to last year," according to the KURIER. The 10 Bundesliga clubs "welcomed an average of 6,165 spectators to their stadiums during the '13-14 season." Last year, the league's "average attendance stood at 6,821." The league's "average attendance record of 9,284 was set during the '07-08 campaign." Overall, the Bundesliga attracted 1.110 million spectators this past season. During the '12-13 campaign, that number was 1.228 million. Bundesliga Chair Christian Ebenbauer said that "those numbers 'have to be increased again' through infrastructural measures." Rapid Vienna led all clubs "with an average attendance of 13,792." League champion Red Bull Salzburg "follows with an average of 10,106 in second place." Salzburg was also "able to increase its attendance by 23.7% from last season" (KURIER, 5/13).
