UEFA Publishes Figures Showing Footballers' Salaries Have Jumped 59% In Last Five Years

UEFA published a "report about Financial Fair Play that shows the activity of European clubs over the last five years," according to José A. Giménez of MARCA. Player "salaries during that time have increased by 59%." The "result is very positive in Spain -- especially when compared with reports from the last five years." Among Europe's top leagues, La Liga "achieved a balance between revenue and spending, one step below the Bundesliga and Dutch Eredivisie." Of the 50 clubs that spent the most money on salary over the last five years, "15 came from the Premier League, eight from the Bundesliga, eight from Serie A, six from from both La Liga and the Russian Premier League and five from Ligue 1." Among clubs' revenue, the principal source is from TV rights (31%), ahead of sponsorship (23%) and ticket sales (18%). In the last five years, UEFA's report showed that EPL clubs spent €2.86B on player transactions, while Serie A clubs spent €2.21B, followed by La Liga (€1.67B), the Bundesliga (€878M), the RPL (€782M) and Ligue 1 (€704M) (MARCA, 5/5).
