La Liga Side Valencia Coach Dons Google Glass To Receive In-Game Analysis

The Spanish Football League (LFP), multimedia group Mediapro and Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), a university in Murcia, Spain, prepared a new initiative using Google Glass in collaboration with La Liga side Valencia. During Sunday's match between Valencia and Real Madrid, Valencia Manager Juan Antonio Pizzi wore the glasses, the first native application for Google Glass. With Google Glass, Pizzi had access to analysis of play and data extraction during the match, without losing sight of the game. The available statistics were grouped into four categories: general, build-up of play, defense and finishing (LFP). In Valencia, Calabuig & Arastell reported "Valencia is taking a technological step." Valencia's intention is to "continue and increase the use of Google Glass in both practices and in games." This will mean "increasing Valencia's strength on social media and the Internet because the collaboration will open up the ways in which Valencia fans can follow or see the games the way the coach sees them" (SUPERDEPORTE, 5/4).
