K-League Seongnam FC coach PARK JONG-HWAN resigned "in the wake of accusations that he assaulted two players during a scrimmage last week." Seongnam FC said the 76-year-old "stepped down to accept responsibility" (KOREA JOONGANG DAILY, 4/23). ... Racing Victoria "will stand by its decision" not to allow bookmaker ROB WATERHOUSE to work the rails at Warrnambool's May carnival next week, despite calls from the Premier, DENIS NAPTHINE, "to re-think the ruling." In an 11th-hour plea, Warrnambool Racing Club and Napthine urged RVL and the Victorian Bookmakers Association "to overturn their decision, saying the colourful bookie would attract additional punters through the gates and to the betting ring" (THE AGE, 4/22).

ARMSTRONG FALLOUT: JOHAN BRUYNEEL, the man in charge of LANCE ARMSTRONG's racing team, "has been banned for ten years for his involvement in doping." The 49-year-old Belgian team director received the ban after a decision by the American Arbitration Association and "is one of three people who worked for Armstrong’s US Postal Service team," which changed its name to Discovery Channel in '05, to be punished. Doctor PEDRO CELAYA and trainer JOSE MARTI "have each received eight-year bans." A statement by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency read, “All three committed multiple anti-doping rule violations over many years. (LONDON TIMES, 4/22).
